Camp Taconnet is located on Ram Island in Rome, Maine. My family has gone there every summer of my life. We have made many friends, and brought many others up with us.

There are fifteen cabins on the island, and each is rented by a different family each week. Some families will rent cabins out for multiple weeks, or occasionally (very rarely) just a few days.

Think of it like sending your kids to camp, then going with them. Three times a day, a staff members runs around the island with a rattle, or "clacker," to signal the beginning of meal time. (There's also a wake-up rattle run.) The rattle path runs very close to some cabins, but far from others - we, luckily, are fairly far away, which means we get to sleep in. :)

Activities & Attractions

Everyone eats in a central lodge, which also serves as an ideal spot for reading by the fire, playing ping pong, doing puzzles, or hosting events like the weekly Freaky  Talent Show (last four weeks of camp only) and singalong. More activities are held outside. Every Friday, a game of Capture the Flag is played across the whole island. Arts and crafts activities are arranged daily at a picnic table near the "Kiddie Court." Tennis tournaments take place on the island's three tennis courts.

Boats can be rented from the lake's marina, Great Pond Marina. Every cabin has a dock, and there's plenty of action in the water, from canoeing and kayaking to swimming to tubing and skiing.

Though not much shopping needs to be done, Day's Store remains a popular attraction, mainly for the candy and junk food.
